Learn to cook traditional Lebanese cuisine with a contemporary twist

Cooking class with Marie. I am spending four weeks alone in Lebanon and wanted to learn how to cook lebanese food. So I booked an evening with Marie. She welcomed me very warmly to her home. We cooked together Tabouleh, Baba Ghanoush, Hummus and a dish with rice and fish (I don’t remember the name) and for dessert we baked traditional sweets with dates. After cooking we had dinner with two friends of Marie‘s and her daughter. The food was delicious and Marie and her friends were very kind. I enjoyed the evening very much and recommend the experience to anyone.

Lebanese cooking class in Beirut with a local family

We had a wonderful time at Tania's home -- we learned a lot about local Lebanese culture, history, geo-politics and of course, the food was the main highlight. Lebanese mezzo's, sausages, beans, delicious salads and a chicken and chickpeas stew. We also got to try generous portions of home made arak. Would highly recommend this experience to our friends and fellow travelers.

Multi-generational Lebanese food experience in Beirut

If you’re a foodie or just want to have an authentic and unforgettable experience you simply must do this. From the minute I was picked up at my b&b to being dropped back, I couldn’t quite believe how lucky I was to spend an evening with such lovely people. Amal and her family are super hospitable and immediately made me feel very welcome. Their home is a beautiful house and garden that have been in the family for generations and it was so lovely to be in this quiet village high up over Beirut. I just wouldn't have seen this part of the country any other way. Amal's Dad grows all their fruit, vegetables and herbs organically and very kindly gave me some to take away with me. The preparation of the food was a lot of fun, especially making the kibbeh and rolling the maakarouni! Amal and her Mum clearly love to cook and are experts in the kitchen. They gave me some great tips. The meal was a feast and the recipes so delicious I quickly realised that this was the first time I had ever tasted proper tabouli, mtabal/baba ganoush, kibbeh, labneh ... I also learned a great deal, not only about food but about local history and culture and the Lebanese outlook on life. It was a wonderful evening with wonderful people and wonderful tastes - the highlight of my first trip to Lebanon and easily one of the best experiences I've ever had on my travels.

Outdoor BBQ and Lebanese mezze experience in a family garden

Meet Tania at her home, and drive together for 15 minutes to get to her family garden. The garden is where they grow their own fruit trees and vegetables, along the river side. Start your experience with a tour of the family garden, Tania will explain the different plants they grow and how those ingredients are traditionally used in Lebanese cooking. Weather permitting and based on availability, you can also pick fresh ingredients from the garden for your cooking class.

Join Tania and her mother for a barbeque and Lebanese mezze experience, where everything is prepared the traditional way without the use of technology. Alternatively, you can also choose a traditional bread and pie making class. Both cooking experiences will last about 2 hours and you will learn to make 2-3 authentic Lebanese dishes from scratch.

After you’ve cooked together, enjoy your traditional Lebanese meal in a beautiful outdoor setting, amidst nature and views of the river. Your meal might include dishes such as tabbouleh (salad), hummus (a dip made with mashed chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, and garlic), baba ganoush (an appetizer of mashed cooked eggplant and various seasonings) and pies or barbequed meat. Enjoy learning about the history, culture and culinary traditions of Lebanon, as you share this homecooked meal you helped prepare.
