I have visited Özlem's house and tested her very interesting plates, mezedes and main dishes, sweets, all was amazing. She is from Smirnis and lives in Chania for many years and has a taste of both culinary cultures. Uses many different ingredients, vegetables and meat (and also seafood). I am very glad that I had such an experience in Chania. Thanks a lot Özlem.
Completely awesome!! Edna & Thanos were fabulous hosts & food was excellent!!
During your 2-hour hands-on Athens cooking class, learn to cook traditional Greek dishes with a twist. Maria will take you through the step by step process of learning to make a Greek appetizer and a main dish, using her family recipes. She will share tips, tricks and secrets from her grandmother's kitchen so that you can easily replicate these recipes back home. After cooking, sit down at the dining table to share the dishes you helped prepare.
On the island of Corfu is a place about 20 minutes from the port that'll knock your socks off with delicious Corfiot food served under a grape arbor. Vasiliki, educated in the US and employed there for 25 years, returned home to Corfu to re-discover the best of its culinary history and make it available to us travelers. Absolutely scrumptious! She offers cooking classes or just a meal. Hard for eight of us to make our minds up, she offered tastings of most of her menu which we shared. Beautiful day, awesome hospitality. Did I mention the great wine yet? Our ship docked on Corfu on a Saturday, a day she normally takes off, but she graciously agreed to open for us when asked through Traveling Spoon. Probably wouldn't have happened without them.
A culinary delight. The cooking experience with Mary was fantastic, she was an excellent host and the food was delicious. We would particularly recommend the evening experience as the view and sunset from the terrace was spectacular. Mary was very passionate about Cretan cooking but she was also very knowledgeable about Cretan history and culture. We could have sat and chatted with her over a glass of Raki for hours!!
Good Food and Conversation. Visiting Ionnas place was one of the best things during our trip. All 4 dishes were super delicious and can be cooked at home. I highly recommend doing a cooking class with her.
Meet Penelope at her apartment located in the heart of Athens city center, in a safe and vivid neighborhood, close to 3 metro stations (Panepistimio, Syntagma & Monastiraki). She lives close to Syntagma square in an art deco building of '30s.

After a refreshing welcome drink, you will discuss with Penelope and decide on the menu for the day. Then walk for 7-10 minutes to the nearby Athens central market to buy ingredients for your cooking class. Fish, meat, vegetables and fruits are sold at this market – a great place to get a glimpse into the everyday life of a local. Penelope loves cooking with fresh, seasonal produce and decides the menu based on what is available in the market. Walk through the lively market and visit Penelope’s favorite vendors where she will introduce you to produce that is locally grown and teach you how to pick the freshest ingredients. After you shop, walk back to Penelope’s apartment to cook and share a traditional Greek meal. Your Athens cooking class will last for 2 hours, where you will cook with the ingredients that you bought at the market. The menu is seasonal and will vary but a few dishes that you can expect to cook and eat together are a fresh Greek salad and fasolada (Greek bean soup) or kakavia (soup of fish and vegetables) or grilled fish and vegetables. End your meal with a dessert such as yogurt cream with strawberries.
In your 3-hour experience you will enjoy a visit to the family vineyard, a tasting of some of the finest Cretan wines, that will be paired with local ingredients like cheese, herbs, honey and ham. Start your experience at the tasting room with a short video and power point presentation to understand how the Cretan landscape and its grapes affect the wine production. Then drive towards the family vineyard, the field is 5km away from the tasting room and it’s recommended to have a car or van. In the vineyard you will get an opportunity to engage in some of the vineyard work depending on the season – it can be pruning if it’s winter, taking off leaves or branches, or tying branches on the wires if it’s spring or harvesting some grapes if it’s summer. After your short walk in the vineyard, it’s time for the wine tasting! It can either be done in the tasting room or in the vineyard as a picnic under the trees (if you prefer the latter you need to inform Stella in advance, and as it is a picnic you will sit on the ground).

The wine tasting includes 5 wines, which come from different wineries on the island and are made with local grapes. The offered wines can also be chosen according to your preference (white, rosé, red), which again needs to be discussed in advance with Stella and within the budget. You will be given a pencil, a leaflet (which includes information about the Cretan vineyard, the grapes, the way one tastes and appreciates wine aromas and some space to keep the wine tasting notes) and post cards to remember the tasting experience. By tasting different wines (winemaker, style, grapes) it will give you insight to a wide variety of wines that come from Crete. The dishes offered during the wine tasting are local products such as cheese, season fruit, some homemade sauce (bell peppers or tomatoes) served with paximadi (a local rusk), jams, sundried tomatoes and local smoked ham called apaki.
This was the highlight of our trip to Greece! Katerina welcomed us into her home like we were family. She showed us how to prepare several traditional Grecian dishes that were just amazing. As a travel advisor, I have had many incredible experiences throughout our beautiful world and this private cooking class is among the most memorable.
Meeting Maria was one of the best experiences of my trip. I am a chef in Australia and teach cooking classes myself, but spending time with Maira really opened my eyes to a lot of new ideas about food I'd never thought about before. She has great knowledge about edible weeds in Syros and their uses, the class and meal was so interesting it flew by. I would strongly recommend going to see Maria if you have time, I went to Syros exclusively to take a class by her and I'm so happy I did.
Christina was incredibly knowledgeable about food in general and about spanakopita specifically. Even though my wife and I are both experienced cooks, she surprised us with a few great tips for keeping the phyllo dough crisp and manageable. Her instructions for rolling out the dough were so clear that our 12-year-old created a perfect version on his first try. The whole evening and dinner were very enjoyable and we would recommend the experience to anyone.
Meet Marina at the ATM near Varvakios Food Market, and then walk to a nearby farmers' market. This market is full of fresh and seasonal vegetables and fruits. Walk around the market for 35-40 minutes, while you visit some of Marina's favorite vendors, to pick a few ingredients for your cooking class. By the end of the market tour, you will learn about local Greek produce, how to choose fresh ingredients and even get to taste a few of them.
Please note the lunch and dinner experiences are different and details for both are given below:

Lunch experience (1:30pm): Join Marina for a 4-hour tour at the food market district of Athens, to savor some local delicacies. Then watch how Greek coffee is made on hot sand, a ritual dating back in time to the Middle Ages. Learn the story behind feta cheese and Greek olive oil at this family owned Greek specialty store. Then enjoy your tasting of authentic Greek yoghurt, just like how the locals like it - with sweet jam on top! Later immerse yourself into the sweet world of local nectar, while you taste a few Greek honeys. Then try some mezes at a local Greek tapas place, before a walk down Athens’ local market and spice street. Your last stop is at a famous Greek dessert shop, where you can satisfy your cravings for crunchy baklava, served with mastiha ice-cream and a local drink called mastiha liqueur. This is a great way to try Greek food from family-run eateries with a passionate local!

Dinner experience (5:30pm): On this 4 hour tour you will taste amazing street food, discover Greek classics, and indulge in decadent desserts. Kick start your tour at a Greek deli and discover the world of Greek extra virgin olive oil with an olive oil sommelier. Then walk around Athens’ old shopping district, the Commercial Triangle, where you will stop at a local street food joint to taste Greece’s favorite street food - souvlaki (small pieces of meat and sometimes vegetables grilled on a skewer). Then make your way to the city’s hippest district, St. Irene’s square, and watch how the locals unwind at their favorite cafes and bars. Visit a hole-in-the-wall Greek restaurant, frequented by locals, to enjoy a traditional Greek style pizza called peinirli. Stroll the streets of Psyrri and celebrate in its lively atmosphere with some comfort Greek food at a mom-and-pop restaurant. And you've still got room for dessert, don't miss the finger-licking good baklava and a special-flavored ice cream, made from a local product found exclusively in Greece!

Loved the tour. Loved the food. Delicious. Great information. Well organised. The food is very authentic.
We had an amazing time! The chef and everyone at the restaurant were incredibly friendly, and the food was some of the best we’ve had in Greece! The recipes were simple enough that I feel like I could actually make them at home, but still delicious. The wine never stopped flowing and the atmosphere of the class was unbelievable. Highly recommend for anyone traveling to santorini!
Angelina Kalogeropoulou was a Traveling Spoon hostess extraordinaire. We enjoyed meeting her family and her scrumptious cooking, even the Greek wine was excellent.
While perusing the Traveling Spoon website for my trip to Greece, my goal was to find a culinary host with whom I felt connected. I was surprised to find there were many, but one really stood out - Angela. She lives between Athens and Mykonos, and I was thrilled to find out she was going to be based in Mykonos while I was there. From the moment we were picked up from our hotel in Mykonos, to the moment we were dropped off, the experience was exceptional - she and her husband, Soren, welcomed us with warmth and graciousness into their stunning villa with unobstructed views overlooking the Aegean. Angelina taught us how to make Spanakopita (as per my request). She had all the ingredients perfectly chopped and ready to go. The experience was completely seamless - Angelina is a professional! She explained and demonstrated what to do, while fluttering around the kitchen so gracefully, topping off our glasses of chilled rose, while simultaneously grilling the lamb and the other delicious dishes she had pre-prepared for our lunch. Their home is bright and welcoming. While cooking in the kitchen, the door is open and all you see if the various blues of the sea and sky. The terrace views are incredible and beyond anything I had anticipated when I signed up for this cooking experience. This is truly a high end and high touch experience, and I feel honored to have met Angelina who is very much involved in the culinary scene in Mykonos. She is a wealth of knowledge about the history, culture...and most importantly a food guru :-)Thank you to the Traveling Spoon. I will search for a culinary experience wherever I go. We had the best time!
Angelina was amazing. The food, the instruction, the conversation...all were wonderful! We made Taziki, meze, egg kayana, spinach pies and baklava. We enjoyed every bite and took a little back to our hotel.

Ride aboard a traditional Greek wooden boat (kaiki) for 45 minutes to a beautiful non-touristy destination for your authentic private Greek cooking demonstration and meal. Depending on the winds, you may be whisked away to a sandy beach on Rhenia next to the ancient island of Delos (a UNESCO World Heritage site) or sail along the south Mykonos beaches which are more protected from the winds. You will enjoy your meal on your kaiki that has a shaded dining area that will be docked where your cooking demonstration will be conducted.

During this cooking demonstration, your host Angelina will show you how to prepare and serve a couple of delectable Myconian and Greek meze (small plates) and how to pair them with the typical greek drink, the ouzo. This is a wonderful way to experience a serene, spectacular beach location away from the crowds of Mykonos and feel the ancient glory of the area! With a glass of ouzo in hand, you will watch as she prepares 2-3 meze that you will feast on later. Your meal will include additional typical Greek dishes Angelina will have prepared in advance. Your menu may include dishes such as mostra (Mykonian bruschetta), keftedakia (Greek meatballs), tzatziki (yogurt and cucumber dip), melitzanosalata (Greek baba ganoush), gigandes (giant beans in a tomato sauce), Greek salad with watermelon and shrimp saganaki (shrimp in a fresh tomato sauce topped with feta cheese).

Bring your own gear or borrow from the boat and feel free to swim and snorkel in the beautiful waters before your meal. You will return via the kaiki to the Ornos port after your culinary adventure!
One of the highlights of our trip! Not only is Angelina an amazing and warm person, she taught us how to make simple, authentic dishes that can even be prepared on week nights! If you want to get your hands into a slice of real Mykonian culture, this is absolutely your class.
