Meet Marina

Marina started cooking when she was 10 years old, and after she graduated from college she decided to become a professional chef, since food was the only thing that sense to her! She studied at Le Cordon Bleu Paris and after that worked in Michelin stared restaurants for 5 years. Apart from cooking, Marina also writes a column where she shares recipes and cooking techniques. Currently, she is opening her first bistro and cannot wait to cook her own dishes for her guests. Apart from cooking and hosting, Marina also loves to teach cooking and is excited to share her passion and knowledge with travelers. Marina will be joined by her partner, who is also a wonderful chef and even a former Top Chef contestant.

What to expect

Cooking experience (1 - 5 guests) In your Athens cooking class, learn to cook a traditional Greek meal with a modern touch - combines tradition with a modern twist. You will be cooking at Marina's home kitchen using her grandmother's recipes, to which she will add a creative twist. Learn to make 2-3 dishes in your 3 hour hands-on cooking class. You might learn to make hilopites - a Greek pasta with eggs and mizithra cheese – a recipe that was passed down to Marina from her grandmother, or lamb or beef in red tomato sauce with trahana (fermented dish) – the ultimate Greek comfort dish and a seasonal salad. After cooking, sit down at the table to share a meal that you helped prepare, that will be served with wine and dessert, a light and creamy yoghurt panna cotta infused with Greek chamomile and honey.

Market visit (1 - 5 guests) Meet Marina at the ATM near Varvakios Food Market, and then walk to a nearby farmers' market. This market is full of fresh and seasonal vegetables and fruits. Walk around the market for 35-40 minutes, while you visit some of Marina's favorite vendors, to pick a few ingredients for your cooking class. By the end of the market tour, you will learn about local Greek produce, how to choose fresh ingredients and even get to taste a few of them.

Notes: Marina can offer a lactose free, gluten free, vegetarian or vegan meal on request. So please let her know your preference while booking your Athens cooking class online. 1-2 glasses of wine is included in the cost of the experience. Please note that there are pets in the house, they will be in a separate room.
