Angelina Kalogeropoulou was a Traveling Spoon hostess extraordinaire. We enjoyed meeting her family and her scrumptious cooking, even the Greek wine was excellent.
Oh my God! This was by far the most fun I have had in Athens. Christina taught my husband and I (and 3 others in our group) how to prepare authentic Greek phyllo dough from scratch in her kitchen. She will teach you to make the ubiquitous flaky Greek dough - starting with flour and water! - and together you will prepare a traditional pie. She will teach you, step by step, how to make the pie filling using seasonal ingredients like wild spinach and other greens and a variety of fresh cheeses (you might mix the filling in the sink since it is her biggest receptacle!). You mix the dough, learn to roll it into paper-thin sheets on her dining table, and layer the pie with the filling. She will show you how to carefully lay the delicate sheets of phyllo in the pan, which results in a light, crispy pie.
This was the highlight of our trip to Greece! Katerina welcomed us into her home like we were family. She showed us how to prepare several traditional Grecian dishes that were just amazing. As a travel advisor, I have had many incredible experiences throughout our beautiful world and this private cooking class is among the most memorable.

Good Food and Conversation. Visiting Ionnas place was one of the best things during our trip. All 4 dishes were super delicious and can be cooked at home. I highly recommend doing a cooking class with her.
In Greece, eating is not just a necessity for most but more like a ritual, that slightly differs from family to family. Maria invites you to her home to share a traditional Greek meal, that will make your taste buds dance! Begin your experience with a glass of fragrant ouzo or tsipouro (anise-flavored aperitif), handpicked Greek olives, Graviera cheese and barley rusks; while Maria shares stories of growing up in Athens and learning to cook as a child in her grandmother's kitchen. A few dishes that you will share at her table are tyrokafteri (spicy Greek feta spread), horiatiki Greek salad with a twist and keftedes (Greek fried meatballs). End your meal with Greek yogurt with thyme honey and a glass of chilled mastic liqueur.
