Food tour (1 - 5 guests) Please note the lunch and dinner experiences are different and details for both are given below:
Lunch experience (1:30pm): Join Marina for a 4-hour tour at the food market district of Athens, to savor some local delicacies. Your tour will start at a local bakery, where you will taste delicious spanakopita (spinach pie) and learn how traditional bougatsa (custard pie with phyllo) is made. Then watch how Greek coffee is made on hot sand, a ritual dating back in time to the Middle Ages. Learn the story behind feta cheese and Greek olive oil at this family owned Greek specialty store. Then enjoy your tasting of authentic Greek yoghurt, just like how the locals like it - with sweet jam on top! Later immerse yourself into the sweet world of local nectar, while you taste a few Greek honeys. Then try some mezes at a local Greek tapas place, before a walk down Athens’ local market and spice street. Your last stop is at a famous Greek dessert shop, where you can satisfy your cravings for crunchy baklava, served with mastiha ice-cream and a local drink called mastiha liqueur. This is a great way to try Greek food from family-run eateries with a passionate local!
Dinner experience (5:30pm): On this 4 hour tour you will taste amazing street food, discover Greek classics, and indulge in decadent desserts. Kick start your tour at a Greek deli and discover the world of Greek extra virgin olive oil with an olive oil sommelier. Then walk around Athens’ old shopping district, the Commercial Triangle, where you will stop at a local street food joint to taste Greece’s favorite street food - souvlaki (small pieces of meat and sometimes vegetables grilled on a skewer). Then make your way to the city’s hippest district, St. Irene’s square, and watch how the locals unwind at their favorite cafes and bars. Visit a hole-in-the-wall Greek restaurant, frequented by locals, to enjoy a traditional Greek style pizza called peinirli. Stroll the streets of Psyrri and celebrate in its lively atmosphere with some comfort Greek food at a mom-and-pop restaurant. And you've still got room for dessert, don't miss the finger-licking good baklava and a special-flavored ice cream, made from a local product found exclusively in Greece!
