Chef Tony is EXCELLENT ! We booked this experience for our daughter's birthday and the whole event was AMAZING ! From the minute we met him, Chef Tony was completely engaged, made sure we were safe in his restaurant-level kitchen AND had FUN all at the same time ! Chef Tony customized the menu to foods that she loves, including fresh fruit, rice, plantains (made into pinones), salad, sushi, pork as main course and tembleques (pudding-like) for dessert, and was willing to customize the experience on the spot if we wanted last-minute changes. He showed us his B and B "mansion" with great pride and joy. We loved his chatter as well as his friendly way while we were preparing the food. Would ABSOLUTELY and POSITIVELY recommend this experience !! The food was fresh and SO, SO, SO tasty ! THANKS Chef Tony !
I am an avid cook and have always wanted to take a class, while on vacation, to pick up the local flavor. Since this was my first time meeting up with someone in their home, I was cautiously optimistic. Viviana far exceeded my expectations!! Her home was lovely and her kitchen was a pleasure. She was warm and hospitable and full of knowledge. When I expressed curiosity about a particular dish, not only did she tell me all about it, but we, then, whipped it up on the fly. After cooking, we sat down for a lunch that would rival any restaurant. It was like an afternoon hanging out with and old friend. Thank you, Viviana, for such an amazing experience! I’m already dreaming about my next trip to PR, and you are at the top of that list.
Enjoy an authentic Puerto Rican meal in your villa that Chef Horta caters. The food you will share is inspired by his roots, the knowledge he gained by working at various restaurant's and his grandmother’s treasured recipes. Chef Horta offers a different menu for every season, as he prefers using fresh, seasonal ingredients in his cooking. Some of the dishes you might try are alcapurrias (Puerto Rican fritters), mini mofongos (a Puerto Rican dish of mashed fried plantains with pork cracklings and garlic), arroz mamposteao (Puerto Rican rice and stewed beans), mashed roots and flan and bread pudding, for dessert. Chef Horta is happy to accommodate your dietary requests and personalize your menu, please feel free to share your preferences when booking the experience online.
Rafi and Lela are AMAZING!!! They greeted us the moment we pulled up and it was so easy to connect with them. The dishes we prepared were delicious and fun to make. I can’t recommend this class enough! Perfect for couples who want to learn more about Puerto Rican cuisine in a comfortable, inviting environment. Rafi and Lela will make you feel like family.
Meet your host Johana at her home in Comerio, a 45-min drive south of San Juan. Sip on a refreshing drink and enjoy a Puerto Rican platter of snacks as your host shares stories about living in Puerto Rico. Next, join Johana in her beautifully designed kitchen to learn to cook and transform any dish with a unique Puerto Rican flair. During your hands-on Puerto Rican cooking class that lasts about 1.5 hours, learn to cook 3-4 dishes. You will also learn techniques involved in making sofrito, the foundation for most Caribbean dishes using only local ingredients. After cooking, sit down at the table (outdoors, weather permitting) to share the authentic Puerto Rican meal you helped prepare with Johana. Your menu might include dishes such as tapas de mariscos, paella criolla and many more. Your meal concludes with dessert and includes two cocktails or glasses of beer in the cost of your experience. Wines, other cocktails and beers are available upon request at extra cost.
Yeira was amazing! It was a 10/10 experience. This was definitely a highlight of our trip! We learned about Puerto Rican cultural dishes right in her home. She was high energy, incorporated great connecting activities, she is very knowledgeable and fun! The food was delicious and our students loved the learning experience and that it was so hands on! This was a 10/10 experience and Yeira and her team were PHENOMENAL!!!"
We had an absolutely amazing experience with Yeira! It was beyond incredible! She uses all fresh ingredients and showed us not only how to cook the recipes that we were making, but to have fun in the kitchen with each other. This is great for couples, families, or friends who are traveling together. It is all about connecting with each other through cooking. She even has a website where she shares more about that and the experiences called Cooknnecting. Everything tasted out of this world...and Yeira kept saying that we were the ones who made it! It was such a homey feel and was exactly what we were hoping for. It's a must do!
