Highly recommend this activity. Mirko was a wonderful host who opened his home to us and shared a snippet of his life in Blato~Korcula through home cooked food and local wines. Mirko was warm, welcoming and made us feel like we were catching up with a friend. The 3 course meal that Mirko cooked were delicious and his grilled fish was the best we have had so far in Korcula. Grilled to perfection
We had a wonderful evening with Lidjia at her home looking out high over the city of Zagreb—delicious food over four courses, fun and interesting conversation, and warm welcoming home and hostess.
I had a wonderful experience with Željka! It was a beautiful sunny day, we met at the Dolac market and enjoyed a stroll through the market stands filled with vivid colours of fresh fruits and vegetables. Željka is a very cool, relaxed and easygoing person and we began talking about travelling and food right away - and since we both love travelling and food, we had a lot of topics to talk about while photographing the whole experience. After our visit to the market where we bought a lot of fresh, organic ingredients, we enjoyed a beautiful stroll through some of the most iconic places in Zagreb on the way to her place - Ban Jelacic Square, famous Ilica street and Britanac Square. Željka’s apartment is settled right in the center of Zagreb, just a minute away from Britanac Square. I was pleasantly surprised with her spacious place that looked very traditional and very “Zagreb-like” - especially the dining hall which was beautifully decorated - the setting of the hall looked like from another century, with big wooden tables, dimmed lights, beautiful table cloth and china which Željka inherited from her grandma. There was also a piano, which Željka’s son plays when they are welcoming guests. Whole atmosphere was very friendly and I felt like a part of their family - their cute dog Rocky was also welcoming me to their home. Željka cooked us traditional Zagreb lunch: “ajngemahtec” (a delicious soup with chicken, lots of chopped vegetables and dumplings), which was amazing! She also prepared fried chicken, “rizi-bizi” (rice with onions and peas, which I really liked because it was very yummy and it reminded me of childhood since my grandma used to prepare it for me often when I was little). For dessert we had “jabuke u šlafruku” - sliced apples fried in a pancake-like dough, sprinkled with some sugar and cinnamon - they were so good that I stopped counting how many of them I ate! Seriously, I was a little embarrassed since I couldn’t stop eating them :) I had a wonderful time and I would definitely recommend Željka as a host and cook to everybody. Although I’m from Croatia, I travel a lot and prefer international cuisines, Željka reminded me why Croatian cuisine is so good! And bringing somebody to his/hers childhood memories with a plate full of delicious, home cooked meal is really something priceless. Thank you for that, Željka!
For my mom’s birthday, I planned a special day at Poje Hvar, and it turned out to be more magical than I could have imagined, thanks to Kornelija. From the moment we arrived at her UNESCO-protected family estate in Stari Grad, Kornelija’s warmth and hospitality made us feel like old friends rather than guests. She guided us through every step of making traditional Croatian salsa—a flavorful and versatile sauce we paired with octopus and crispy fried polenta cakes. Strolling through her garden, we handpicked fresh ingredients for our meal, all while Kornelija shared fascinating stories about the history of Stari Grad. The experience was more than culinary; it was cultural and deeply personal. But what made the day truly unforgettable was how Kornelija went above and beyond to celebrate my mom. She surprised her with a homemade olive oil cake, baked just for the occasion, complete with a thoughtful birthday banner. It was such a heartfelt gesture that brought my mom to happy tears. We also tasted Kornelija’s homemade Rakija, olive oil, and goat cheese, alongside wines from her neighbor, all of which showcased the flavors and traditions of Hvar. By the end of the day, we didn’t just leave with full stomachs—we left with full hearts and a newfound connection to this beautiful place and its people. If you’re looking for an experience that’s authentic, intimate, and utterly unforgettable, Poje Hvar with Kornelija is it. Her kindness and dedication to sharing her heritage are unmatched, and I can’t wait to see her again when our paths cross in Zagreb.
Meet at Ana's home in the early morning and walk down together to her local beach, for a unique experience to collect your own local shellfish. There you will take her friend's small motorboat to collect the nets (and hope for a good haul!). Clean and wash your catch while you learn more about the seafood native to Preko. You will enjoy a small "marenda", small morning snack, before you take a short break to go down to the local beach for a swim and beat the morning heat of summer. Then return to Ana's home to prepare your lunch of freshly collected shellfish and a few other traditional Croatian dishes. Please note this experience is seasonally available during the summer months. Also note that your shellfish catch cannot be guaranteed; if you don't bring in any shellfish from the nets you will pick up your fish from a local vendor nearby.
Your host Alex will pick you up from your hotel on the western coast of Istria and drive you one hour to Livade, where your truffle experience takes place. Your experience will take place during a truffle fair weekend, one of 10 special weekends organized annually by the region. Start off your experience with a group truffle hunt! Head into the woods to go truffle hunting with Alex, truffle hunting dogs and a truffle master. An electric train will take you closer to the truffle hunting region, a few miles into the woods. Walk through the woods, following the lead of the dogs under oak, elm and poplar trees to uncover truffles found in the rich soil of this Istrian region. While the truffle hunting experience organized for the fair is open to other travelers who may also be present during the hunt, Alex will be your private truffle and tour guide. Your hunt may last up to an hour as you watch how truffles are collected and learn about the different types of truffles found in this region. Return to the fair and share a truffle-inspired lunch with Alex at a local restaurant. Choose between homemade pasta with black truffles or a truffle burger that you can enjoy over a glass of wine. After lunch, Alex will help you explore the fair where you can taste and sample some of the region’s best products, from white and black truffle-infused products, to cheese, to world famous olive oils. In addition to the food samples, you will be provided a glass to taste some of the many wines produced in the area. End your visit with a short trip to a local honey producer where you will get to taste some spectacular Istrian honey. Around 4pm, you will depart for your hotel.
