Host offerings
Kylie was raised in a traditional Black-American family that valued home cooking, and has fond memories of long family meals together. While she was in college in New York city, she missed her mother’s cooking and started to learn her recipes over phone calls she would make to her mom. Kylie has lived in several countries and has absorbed the cuisine and culture of these countries which is visible in her food. She offers a fusion of Soul Food, Caribbean and South Indian food with tropical accents. Kylie is passionate about food and travel and is delighted to entertain travelers at home from around the world.

In-home meal (1 - 3 guests) Meet your warm and friendly host Kylie at her cozy apartment in East Harlem. Share a fresh homemade juice like passion fruit or starfruit as your host shares stories about life in the city and your menu for the day. Your menu may include an appetizer like tostones, fried plantains or a vadaiw ith a fresh chutney and a main such as prawn curry served with rice and peas, and a side of avocado. Your meal will conclude with a dessert such as payasam, a South Indian dish of vermicelli cooked in sweetened milk or badusha.
Cooking experience (1 - 3 guests) Join Kylie in her small kitchen to learn to cook a fusion of Soul, Tamil and Caribbean cuisine from recipes that have been passed down through generations in her and her husband’s families. Based on your preference, Kylie can offer a hands-on cooking class or demonstration that will last 2 hours. You will learn to cook or watch your host prepare three dishes from scratch. Enjoy learning about the techniques involved in cooking Soul, Caribbean and South Indian food before you sit down at the table to share the meal you helped prepare with Kylie. On days that her husband Madhav is available, he will join you at the table.
Notes: Kylie can also offer a traditional South Indian meal if you prefer – she makes dosais and idlis from scratch! Inform her when making your booking if this is your preference.

A Traveling Spoon ambassador visited this host. Here is their personal review.
Kylie was very knowledgeable about all the spices she uses and really cared about cooking. We had great conversations about what we do and I actually learned a lot about cooking and the neighborhood. It was really an awesome experience and I would love to do it again. The home was fairly clean. The food was amazing, all the ingredients were really fresh and the taste was very unique compared to any other places I ate, you can really smell all the freshly ground spices.
