Hami will pick you up from your Cappadocia hotel and drive you to a local market near his home. On Saturdays, you will visit a weekly market in the Migros supermarket car park instead, a hive of activity full of fresh local produce. During your 1-hour market tour, walk around the marketplace with Hami to learn about local fruits and vegetables, and how they are used in Turkish cuisine. You may also buy a few fresh ingredients, before driving to Hami’s home for your cooking and meal experience.
Hami feels that most of the tourist areas in Cappadocia serve similar food, which is limited to kebab! He is excited to share authentic dishes that locals eat at home so that travelers get to try diverse food, often not found in restaurants. Hami believes the food eaten at home is one of the best Turkish foods in Cappadocia. He and his wife will share recipes from two regions – the Black Sea and Cappadocia. Join them at the table to share an authentic Turkish meal that may include dishes such as bulgur soup or grandma’s winter chicken soup, manti (Turkish dumplings) or dolma (stuffed vine leaves) and yaglama (flatbread stacked with ground beef sauce). You will end your meal with Turkish tea.
During your 1.5-hour hands-on Cappadocia cooking class, join Hami and his wife in their kitchen to cook some of their favorite traditional Turkish dishes from family recipes. You will cook three dishes from scratch, while learning about Turkish culture and culinary traditions. You will help Hami make a soup, salad and main dish that you will later share together at the dining table.
Round-trip transportation from Cappadocia hotels is included in the price of your experience. Please include your hotel name and address when booking your Cappadocia cooking class online. Hami can provide vegetarian, vegan, lactose free and gluten free meals on request - please inform him in advance if you have any dietary requests.
This is just a sample menu to give you an idea of the types of dishes the host cooks. Your menu will vary according to seasonal availability.
