More about Lucia

Lucía has been passionate about cooking for as long as she can remember. Her love for gastronomy inspired her to earn bachelor’s degrees in both Mexican and international cuisine, followed by a Master’s degree specializing in Mexican culinary history. Today, she shares her expertise by teaching gastronomic history at local universities. When she’s not working, Lucía can often be found in her kitchen, preparing recipes passed down from her mother and grandmother, as well as dishes inspired by her husband’s family from the Yucatán.

A warm and welcoming host, Lucía delights in sharing Mexico’s rich culinary history and weaving stories of her own childhood in the kitchen, along with her favorite cooking tips and secrets. She lives near San Ángel, a charming residential neighborhood in southern Mexico City. Her traditional-style home is thoughtfully designed for hosting guests. Join her for a delicious homemade meal and unwind in her tranquil garden - a peaceful retreat away from the vibrant bustle of central Mexico City.

What others are saying

"Lucia is such an interesting woman, passionate about history and gastronomy, about Mexico. It is a pleasure listening to her and talking with her about her cooking memories and secrets.

The cooking experience at Lucia's feels like escaping from hectic Mexico City for a while. Her house is quiet, her garden an oasis of calm and her spacious kitchen is a very practical place to cook together. She is passionate about both Mexican history and gastronomy and can tell you the story and secrets of any dish. Lucy is attached to the authenticity of Mexican gastronomy and taste. Far from the traditional guacamole, quesadillas and tacos, she knows local recipes that will not disappoint you!"

"We had a really wonderful time with Lucia, getting introduced to the local market with its abundance of vegetables and fruits, and being welcomed into her home. During the 10 days we spent in Mexico City at the end of 2024, this was one of our two most memorable experiences. I am writing this review now, 6 months later, because I just recommended Lucia’s class to friends, and realized that I had never posted a review.
Learning to cook traditional-style Mexican food with Lucia was terrific fun. And the dishes we prepared were really delicious. We could never have figured out this cooking style from a cookbook. We have tried a very limited number of dishes since returning home, but we plan to experiment more broadly. We need to learn the best sources for Mexican ingredients in the Maryland area. In the meantime, I am highly recommending Lucia’s class to friends and neighbors who are heading to Mexico City later this month. I would also say that Lucia is an extremely gracious host. I post very few reviews on Trip Advisor, so this can be considered evidence of a very high level of enthusiasm."

"Wonderful experience with a lovely home cook! We enjoyed a generous meal and learned so much preparing it. A highlight of our time in Mexico City. We got to tour a different part of the city, learn from our guide about her life and family and neighborhood, tour the food markets and learn about the food, and enjoy the cooking experience. We learned how to make mole, quesadillas and arepas, work with zucchini blossoms, and make Mexican flan. We had a delicious meal together in her garden with a view. Highly recommend for couples or families with kids who are old enough to enjoy working in the kitchen."
