Meet Faiziya

Faiziya lives with her husband, Arshad, and two children in a beautiful apartment in Bandra West. Originally from Bangalore, Faiziya moved to Mumbai when she got married and considers herself a Bangalorean at heart and Mumbaikar in spirit. After all these years, she still prefers dosa to bread! Arshad is the 5th generation to run the family garment business, which was started in the 1880s. Their family is part of the Cutchi Memon community that traces its roots to the Gulf of Kutch in Gujarat. Their family life is steeped in tradition, culture and heritage.

Faiziya’s food is loved by her friends and family and on their insistence she started a small catering business. She now delivers home-cooked food as well as trousseau and gift packing.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal (2 - 6 guests) Faiziya will welcome you into her traditional home and will greet you with a refreshing drink called rooh afza, a fresh lime soda with a mint garnish. She will tell you about the Cutchi Memnon cooking style and dishes she has been preparing for over 20 years. The cuisine is meat-centric and is famous for using slow cooking techniques and liberal use of spices like saffron.

At the dining table you will receive a written menu of the dishes will be served. The meal will be presented on chinaware and served in courses. You might start with mutton harissa (goat stew with cracked wheat) followed by mutton samosas or kebabs, a whole stuffed chicken or nalli nihari (slow cooked lamb stew) all served with bread and biryani. Top it off with a sweet dish, possibly Faiziya’s khubani ka meetha (apricot, custard and cream).

Cooking experience (2 - 6 guests) Join Faiziya in her kitchen for a cooking demonstration. She will demonstrate 2-3 dishes you can make with kheema (minced mutton) such as mutton samosas or aloo kheema pattice (potato and mutton patties) and a sweet dish like phirni (rice pudding).

Notes: As Faiziya hails from a traditional Muslim family, she prefers to host only women travellers.
