Meet Usha and Durga

Durga and Usha live in a home that has been in their family for more than a century and has been recently converted into a beautiful heritage guest house surrounded by delightful gardens full of melodic songbirds.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal (1 - 20 guests) You will be greeted with a welcome drink served in Usha's beautiful courtyard in their Jaipur guesthouse. You will then Join Usha (and her husband Durga when he is in town) at the dining table to enjoy a typical Rajasthani meal. Dishes might include soolas (charcoal grilled meal – a battlefield specialty), ker sangri (a Rajasthani desert specialty of beans cooked in yoghurt), sukha aloo (potatoes cooked in cumin and spices), dal bati and churma (unleavened bread made from millet), baingan bhartha (a roasted and smashed eggplant dish), and a homemade Indian dessert.

Cooking experience (1 - 20 guests) Learn to cook a traditional Rajasthani meal at an outdoor cooking station with Usha, with assistance from her staff. The traditional Rajasthani meal you will enjoy features foods that are not typically found in restaurants. The tastes might be different from the Indian dishes with which you are familiar – these are drier foods made from desert vegetables and grains. For example, breads are made from grains that grow in the arid desert, like millet and sorghum, instead of the typical wheat flour. This is some of the most authentic Rajasthani food we've tried.

Market visit (1 - 20 guests) Walk to Chandpole to get a glimpse of the spice bazaar, a chaotic riot of sights and sounds before returning to learn to cook a Rajasthani meal with Usha.

Notes: On days that Durga is not available, Usha will host you on her own. Alcohol is included in the cost of your experience.
