Enjoy a 45-minute guided walking tour through a local Hanoian market with Hang and discover and sample Vietnamese fruit, herbs and other regional produce. Watch as locals bargain with vendors at this lively Hanoian market. Purchase ingredients at the market for your meal before returning to Hang's home to begin your authentic Vietnamese cooking class and a meal.
Step into a welcoming Hanoian home in the heart of the Old Quarter and learn to cook like a local with Hang and her mother. In this authentic Vietnamese cooking class, you’ll learn to prepare beloved family recipes passed down through generations. Start with a fresh, herb-filled salad, then choose between crispy spring rolls or chả cá lã vọng, Hanoi’s iconic turmeric-marinated fish, grilled and served sizzling with dill, herbs, and rice noodles for a bold, unforgettable flavor. If you want to cook another Vietnamese or Hanoian dish, please let your host know in advance so that she can adjust the menu accordingly.
As you cook, sip on a homemade tropical tea infused with ginger, lemongrass, or lychee, and pick up time-honored techniques and stories from Hang’s family kitchen. This small group 2.5-hour cooking class and meal experience offers an authentic, heartwarming window into Hanoian cultural and culinary traditions. Vegetarian options are available, just share your preferences when booking.
Sit down to a warm and authentic Hanoian meal at Hong's table, where every dish reflects the heart of home cooking. Your meal begins with a fresh, seasonal salad, perhaps banana blossom, kohlrabi, or green papaya depending on the day’s best market finds. For the main course, enjoy either chả cá, a beloved Hanoi specialty of turmeric-marinated fish stir-fried with dill and spring onions, served with vermicelli noodles, or her light and flavorful spring rolls packed with herbs and paired with a bright, homemade dipping sauce. End your meal with a refreshing selection of seasonal Vietnamese fruits, shared over laughter and conversation about life in Hanoi. If you opt for alcohol, Hang will serve crisp, local Vietnamese beer to complete your experience.
1. Please note that unlike most Traveling Spoon experiences, this experience is not private.
2. If you have any specific dishes you'd like to eat, please let Hang know, as the menu can be customized.
3. Start times may vary due to sunset times and will be confirmed in advance by your host.
4. Hang’s street becomes a walking street after 7:00pm every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. On these days there are often musical performances in the street that last from 8:00-10:00pm and can be seen from her window and balcony.
This is just a sample menu to give you an idea of the types of dishes the host cooks. Your menu will vary according to seasonal availability.

nice and informative! I also recommend doing the market tour."
"Fab family experience!
Brilliant experience, really wonderful to spend time in a Vietnamese home and learn more
about family life and culture, as well as get some great cooking tips. A highlight of our time
in Hanoi."
"My wife and I had a delightful evening with Hang and Hong in Hanoi. Food was exceptional and easy to replicate at home. Hang and Hong were warm, welcoming and good teachers. We learned a lot about the local culture as the whole family was there. Location was good, in the center of Hanoi. This is our 4th Traveling Spoon event cooking with local chefs in four countries. Each was wonderful and each was unique, not only in the food prepared but the ambiance and approach. We head to our fifth shortly."
