I have had plenty of Lowcountry Boils, but nothing compared to the one at my host Clay's home! Walking into his beautiful Wilmington Island home, surrounded by marshland, I was met with Clay’s infectious energy and welcoming spirit. His passion for cooking was evident as we had a Low-country Boil filled with the juiciest potatoes and the biggest shrimp I have ever seen, all accompanied by freshly made butter and zesty cocktail sauce. However, the collard greens stole the show, as they were perfectly salty and spicy - the best I’ve had in the South. What made this dining experience truly unforgettable was not only the delectable food, but also the camaraderie we shared with Clay and his friend as we dug into the feast. Clay’s culinary skills and warm, inviting nature make this a dining experience everyone should experience.
Ninoska's home is located about 25 minutes from downtown Savannah, GA - guests will need their own car or an Uber for transportation. Ninoska provided clear directions for getting into the complex. There was ample parking, allowing guests to easily find a spot right in front of Ninoska's home. Ninoska’s home, a third-floor walk-up, is a cozy loft-style apartment brimming with life and character. Upon entering, you are greeted by Ninoska’s bright smile and her small dog Tony wagging his tail. The kitchen, though small, is impeccably clean. Due to its size, the number of people in the kitchen at any given time should be limited. Before the experience, Ninoska asked me to take a short quiz about how my body and mind were feeling to tailor a menu based on the nutrients I needed. This personalized approach made the experience even more exciting. While she was cooking, Ninoska explained why she chose certain meals and how I could incorporate them into my daily life. The menu created for me was a pineapple spice mocktail, a berry and goat cheese crostini, a creamy garlic and potato coconut soup, walnut and black bean tacos with quinoa. Ninoska also prepared a mocha pudding for dessert. Ninoska spaced out each course of the meal, allowing her to explain how each dish benefited my body and to engage in deeper conversation. Her knowledge, passion for cooking and warmth made me feel incredibly connected to her. Each dish was made with the freshest ingredients, and there wasn't a single item on the menu that I disliked. I left feeling completely fulfilled. Ninoska is a perfect host in my eyes.
