Meet Kerry

Kerry learned to cook when she was 9 so that she could prepare family meals, while her mother was at work. Until recently, she worked a full-time job which she gave up to be on a cooking show called ‘My Kitchen Rules’. Since then, she has made food her life, writing a blog about food and restaurants, cooking weekly family meals for busy moms and a host of other food related things! She loves cooking curries and other food she grew up eating (mostly Cape Malay influence), also loves creating new, fresh recipes and her absolute favorite thing to do is baking. Kerry also loves painting and reading almost as much as eating, cooking and talking about food!

“I love cooking for people, I love the conversations that food and eating together brings. I love having people in my home and sharing the things I love to cook and eat with them.“

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal (1 - 8 guests) Kerry lives with her husband and twin boys in their suburban home, approximately a 30 min drive from the Sandton CBD. Her beautiful home is easily accessible by Uber or taxi. Kerry will welcome you with the warmest smile, making you feel at home at once! Her passion for cooking has been passed down to her from her mother and she is very excited to share these family recipes with you. Kerry’s specialty is Cape Malay cuisine and you will join her at the dining table to share a traditional, home cooked meal. Your menu might include dishes such as smoked snoek tart with homemade apricot chutney (smoked snoek, is a typically a South African fish, usually done on a barbecue with apricot jam as a basting), aknee (a typically Cape Malay dish, which could be vegetarian or with meat, it’s a rice dish made with yogurt) and fish frikkadels (a frikkadel is like a fish cake) served with a tomato and onion relish. You shall end your meal with a dessert such as malva pudding and custard (hot, baked pudding) or koeksisters (a Cape Malay spiced doughnut, rolled in coconut).

Cooking experience (1 - 8 guests) Join Kerry in her home kitchen for a 1-hour hands-on cooking class. You will learn to make 2-3 dishes that you will be eating later. Kerry will first demonstrate how it is done and will then help you prepare a main, dessert and flat bread. Along the way she will share tips and secrets to cooking a traditional South African meal. You may learn to make fish cakes, malva pudding and learn to roll your own rotis (flat bread), before joining Kerry at the dining table to share the meal you helped prepare.

Notes: Kerry can offer vegetarian and gluten free meals on request.
