During your hands-on Ravenna cooking class learn to make pasta from scratch. The class takes place at Silvia's home in the heart of Ravenna down town and lasts about 2 hours. You will learn to make pasta or gnocchi from scratch, a traditional sauce and dessert. Silvia can make a variety of pasta such as tagliatelle, tagliolini, strozzapreti or cappelletti, so please let her know if you have a preference. She learned to make handmade pasta from her grandmother and will share some wonderful stories from her childhood while you cook together. After cooking, share the meal you helped prepare with Silvia and her boyfriend at the dining table.
Meet your host Silvia at her home located in the Ravenna city center. She will welcome you with an appetizer of piadina (a traditional Italian flatbread) served with Italian cheese, honey and jam. Silvia is excited to share with you her love and passion for Romagna cuisine. You can expect a traditional Italian meal, made from recipes passed down to Silvia from her grandmother. A few dishes that you might enjoy at Silvia’s dining table are strozzapreti panna e salsiccia (cream and sausage pasta) or gnocchi di patate alla sorrentina (potato gnocchi with tomato sauce and mozzarella), fresh salad or seasonal roasted vegetables and a sweet dessert such as tiramisu.
Silvia can offer vegetarian and lactose free meals on request. Please note that Silvia also runs a bnb, so you may see other guests, however, your Traveling Spoon experience will be private.
This is just a sample menu to give you an idea of the types of dishes the host cooks. Your menu will vary according to seasonal availability.
A tour guide for over two decades, Silvia she enjoys sharing stories about Ravenna, the city in which she grew up. Silvia has always loved cooking and has fond memories of helping her grandmother in the kitchen make handmade pasta and piadina (a typical bread of the Emilia Romagna region, amongst other regional favorites). She remembers the simple, fresh and delicious meals at her grandparents’ home, and that is the experience she wants to replicate for guests! Silvia and her boyfriend love experimenting in the kitchen and creating new recipes. Apart from cooking, she is also very passionate about art, especially the mosaic technique.
When asked why she wanted to host, she said “When I started traveling I brought back home many recipes from different countries - I think that food is the best memory we can preserve from a trip and I want to give that to guests.”
