Meet Kim

Kim has been part of the travel industry for 25 years and enjoys meeting people, traveling to new places and discovering different cultures and cuisines. Kim learned to cook when she was 12 years old from her father. Her father had always wanted to be a chef, but went on to become a Captain in the merchant navy, so he passed on his interest and passion to Kim. She is a Goan native and lives with her family (husband and two children) in a small village in South Goa. Her family enjoys her cooking so much that they encouraged her to open her own fine foods and confectionery business five years ago, so that she could share her passion with others. Through her business Kim caters food for groups as small as 2 and as large as 200, customizing her meals to each customer's unique them.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal (1 - 10 guests) The experience takes place in Kim's home in Orlim Village, which is a lovely rural village in South Goa. On arrival you will be greeted with fresh coconut water straight from their tree in the garden or fresh lime juice. Kim will then share more about her passion for food and cooking. She enjoys experimenting with all kinds of cuisines and will explain to you how Goan food has a Hindu Saraswat and Catholic Portuguese influence.

Later, join Kim for a short walk around the village, where you will visit a 450 year-old church, a handloom house where they make kunbi saris and shawls and you may even spot a few migratory birds. Then return back to Kim’s house to share a Goan Portuguese meal. You’re free to explore the garden which has a large selection of spices and fruit trees - banana, pineapple, papaya and bimli or you can join Kim in the kitchen while she adds finishing touches to the meal or you can just relax and do some bird watching. Your meal will be a collection of Goan-Portuguese fusion cuisine prepared using ingredients locally sourced or mostly homegrown. The meal will be served at the dining table on the patio on the first floor (rather than inside the main house) and you might enjoy dishes like fish cutlets, Goan boiled rice, prawn curry made from coconut milk or pork vindaloo. End your meal with a sweet dessert like caramel custard, tender coconut panna cotta or bebinca.

Notes: For families with children there will be a special menu for the child (with discounted pricing):
(0-4 years): welcome drink, starters and french fries
(5-11 years): welcome drink, starters, french fries, sharing the main course with the parent and dessert

The way the trip was scheduled was pleasant, with a nice walk explaining the history of the region followed by visit to the river to catch the crabs, even though we just caught one small crab the experience was wonderful. Then we came back to her house for dinner. She made some delicious traditional Goan dishes like Chafereal, prawn risotto and a crepe spring roll. The spring roll was out of the world. I would highly recommend this tour to everyone.I would highly recommend this trip to everyone. It was lovely spending time with Kim's entire family. Booking tours with locals is one way of doing this and I do it often. But this booking- was fabulous! Kim not only served us a 7 couruse meal of local Goan treats in her gorgeous home- but also took us on a walking tour of her village! We picknicked on the river, spent magical time in the gorgeous local Church and stopped at historic chapels and buildings all along the way. Her family was so welcoming and lovely! I can’t say enough about thus experience. JUST DO IT!"}, {"author_name" : "MsSimoneLA", "rating" : 5, "body" : "I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Kim and her family! Kim reached out the day before giving me exact directions to her home to ensure I didn't get lost. Upon my arrival, I immediately felt how warm and loving Kim is. She is very pleasant and easy to talk to. We went on a walking tour of Orlim and I learned a lot about the town...Kim is very knowledgeable about it's history. We then met up with her husband, Roy, at the river to go crabbing. We had a picnic with some small snacks and tea. We were lucky and caught 3 crabs! We then went back to the house. Kim's daughter gave me a tour of their garden while Kim put final touches on dinner. I brought a saree that I wanted to wear for dinner, and Kim was nice enough to show me how to tie it properly.:-) Kim then began bringing in appetizers while I chatted with her daughter who is also very sweet. Kim is a wonderful cook! Every dish she prepared, the flavors and spices were truly delicious! She is also very accommodating with any food preferences or restrictions. We listened to traditional Goan music and we all talked and laughed. I was stuffed by the time I finished dinner, but I enjoyed every bite of it! I had such a nice day with Kim and her family. Thanks for everything!"}, {"author_name" : "Yvonne H", "rating" : 5, "body" : "It was fun to meet Kim and her family and walk around the village and her home learning about all the native plants. We very much enjoyed the snacks, quiet time and engaging conversation by the river. Lunch was delicious!! There was such a variety of Goan specialties. I felt we got a real taste of Goa:)"}] }
