Meet Wilma

Wilma's love for cooking began in her childhood, learning from her mother and perfecting her skills as she prepared daily meals for her children. She took pride in creating healthy, flavorful dishes while passing on her passion for cooking to the next generation. As the wife of a now-retired Army officer, Wilma’s family moved frequently, giving her the opportunity to explore and enjoy diverse cuisines from across India. Yet, the Mangalorean food of her upbringing has always held a special place in her heart.

For Wilma, cooking is more than a skill - it’s a source of joy and a way to connect with others. She delights in hosting gatherings and has even cooked for over three dozen people at a time, sharing her warmth and love through every dish she prepares.

In-home meal (1 - 6 guests) Wilma warmly invites you into her charming home, adorned with decorative stone walls and surrounded by a lush garden where she grows her own herbs. Begin your visit with a refreshing welcome drink as Wilma introduces you to the flavors of Mangalorean cuisine - an enticing blend of spices, coconut, and fresh ingredients like fish, meat, and vegetables.

A highlight of Wilma’s kitchen is her Mangalorean breads, traditionally made from rice flour. At the dining table, savor a delicious menu that might include chicken stew with hot appams (fermented rice crepes), pork bafat and sannas (spicy pork curry with steamed rice cakes), fresh salad, and flavorful Indian lentils. Conclude your meal with a sweet treat like kheer (rice pudding) or gajar halwa (carrot pudding), leaving you with a taste of Wilma’s heritage and hospitality.

Cooking experience (1 - 6 guests) Step into Wilma’s kitchen, the heart of her warm and welcoming home, for a one-hour cooking demonstration. Watch as Wilma expertly prepares traditional South Indian dishes, showcasing the art of making appams (fermented rice crepes) or sannas (fluffy steamed rice cakes) paired with a flavorful chicken stew and a seasonal vegetable curry. While this is a demonstration rather than a hands-on class, it’s an engaging opportunity to learn the secrets of her treasured recipes.
