Meet Ritika

Proud of her Punjabi heritage, Ritika loves experimenting with fresh ingredients to create unique flavor profiles that embrace both the traditional and modern. The women in her family - mostly her mother and her mother-in-law - have passed down recipes that Ritika has now made her own. Ritika believes that the pleasure of her family and friends enjoying the food she has cooked is worth the investment. She is excited to serve traditional Punjabi dishes to her guests, over a conversation about Indian culture.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal (1 - 20 guests) Ritika lives with her family in a beautiful home, tastefully decorated with antiques. Ritika is excited to serve traditional Punjabi dishes, using her mother’s recipes, that have been passed down through generations. Ritika only uses seasonal ingredients in her cooking, which she gets either from the local market or a friend's organic farm. If the weather is pleasant, you will sit outside in the garden to enjoy your meal, or, if the weather is uncooperative, you will be served in the dining room. Your menu might include dishes like palak chaat (crispy spinach leaves topped with chutneys), dal makhani (a lentil dish using a secret family recipe), mutton curry or butter chicken, tomato paneer (cottage cheese) or seasonal vegetable, rice and roti (flatbread). Your meal concludes with a dessert such as gulab jamun (deep-fried balls made of milk solids and dunked in a rose-cardamom flavored syrup) and tea or coffee.

Cooking experience (1 - 20 guests) Learn to make flavorful traditional Punjabi dishes with Ritika and her staff. The cooking class with take about 1 hour 30 minutes and you will learn to make three dishes from scratch. The class will include both a demonstration and hands-on cooking opportunities. Ritika will first show you how to prep and then you can help her make a menu of either Amritsari fish, chole bhature and a seasonal vegetable, or butter chicken, dal makhani and tandoori roti.

Notes: Ritika’s home is about a 15-20 minute drive from the Golden Temple. She can offer vegetarian and vegan meals, on request. Please contact her in advance, if you'd like to eat or cook a specific dish.

GOOD REVIEWS
{ "ambassador" : [{"author_name" : "Michelle", "rating" : 5, "body" : "I really loved the cooking workshop I did with Ritika. In fact, I loved it so much that I did two! Ritika has great recipes to share and a passion for teaching cooking. For each workshop I learnt to cook at least three dishes that I had chosen, in the family kitchen and then enjoy them for lunch. It was a combination of demonstration and hands-on. I appreciated how Ritika was concerned to teach me dishes I could cook at home and to make them easy to adapt and vary to make other dishes. She showed me lots of shortcuts and told me many good tips. Everything was excellent, but my favourite dishes were the butter chicken and chole. I also loved sitting and eating the lunch that we had prepared, in the garden area. Also, each time, Ritika surprised us with a dessert that we hadn’t prepared, to finish the meal. That was a lovely touch! It’s an overall lovely experience and well worth it. "}] }
