Meet Colin

Colin comes from a Hokkien family and first learned to cook from his mother. Many staple Singaporean dishes originated from the Hokkien community, they are proud of their culture and food and usually focus on the umami flavor component in their food. Colin translates that into his own cooking. Colin is the main chef at the cooking studio and a professional, licensed tour guide, who has also worked in fine-dining restaurants and hotels. Cooking with fresh market produce, traveling, learning about different cuisines and cultures, and meeting new people are Colin’s greatest passions.

“My passion is to teach and impart my food knowledge to those who are interested.” On days that Colin is unavailable, his colleagues who are equally passionate about Singaporean food will host you.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

In-home meal (5 - 20 guests) Colin (or his colleagues) hosts this experience in a cooking studio, which is located inside a bicycle tour shop. You will pass through bicycles before entering a well-lit, colorfully decorated studio with pastel pots and a mural. Your menu might include dishes such as hainanese chicken rice, ngo hiang (five-spiced meat mixed with water chestnuts, carrots, garlic, shallots and spring onions and wrapped in bean curd skin), and kueh dadar (a fragrant pandan and coconut flavored dessert crepe). The menu is subjected to change, depending on what fresh ingredients are available!

Cooking experience (5 - 20 guests) During your 1.5-hour hands-on cooking class, Colin (or his colleagues when he is not available) will teach you how to make three Singaporean dishes from scratch. You can expect a hands-on experience with your host first demonstrating some of the steps before giving you a chance to try everything yourself. You will make an appetizer and main based on what is fresh and seasonally available at the market as well as nonya kueh dadar, a pandan flavored crepe with grated coconut. (subjected to changes)

On days that Colin is not available, his colleagues will host your cooking lesson. Please note the menu might vary. If there are any particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form - otherwise, your host will choose a seasonal menu.
