Meet Chieko at her cooking studio in Shibuya City, a 10-minute walk from Shinjuku station. During your Tokyo home-style Japanese cooking class, choose one menu from five options provided. You will learn to make authentic, home-style Japanese dishes from scratch during your 2-hour, hands-on cooking class. You will cook together one Japanese main dish + two side dishes. Chieko will share tips and tricks that she learned from her mother so that you can easily recreate these dishes back home. After your hands-on Japanese cooking class sit down to share the dishes you helped prepare with Chieko.

Notes


1. Chieko can accommodate a vegetarian diet. Please choose your menu option and inform your host if you have any allergies in advance when making your Tokyo cooking class booking.

2. Please note your cooking class lasts 2.5 hours: 11am - 1:30pm or 5pm - 7:30pm.

3. If the group is bigger than 4~5 people, Chieko may host at Yotsuya, Shinjuku Classroom [5 min walk from Yotsuya-Sanchome Station] or Shinjuku Gyoen Classroom [10 min walk from Shinjuku-gyoemmae], she will send you an email informing you of the exact location, upon confirmation.

This is just a sample menu to give you an idea of the types of dishes the host cooks. Your menu will vary according to seasonal availability.

  • Please choose one menu from the below when you book so Chieko can prepare ingredients beforehand.
  • Option 1: Okonomiyaki (Japanese Pancake) with Yakisoba, Tamagoyaki (rolled omelet), Spinach Salad and Miso Soup
  • Option 2: Gyoza (potstickers) with Takoyaki, Pickled vegetables and Miso Soup
  • Option 3: Rolled Sushi with Teriyaki, Spinach Salad, and Miso Soup
  • Option 4: Karaage (Japanese Juicy Fried Chicken) with Tonjiru, Onigiri, Rolled Egg and Spinach Salad
  • Option 5: Customized menu upon request (discuss your preferences with Chieko)

More about Chieko

Chieko is a certified cooking instructor with a passion for cooking. She was born and raised on Shikoku Island and then lived in Kyoto, Osaka, and Los Angeles before moving to Tokyo. Growing up on an island ensured that Chieko always had access to fresh seafood, vegetables and rice. Her parents were farmers so cooking with fresh, seasonal and local ingredients is very important to Chieko. Chieko learned to cook traditional Japanese dishes from her mother - she has fond memories watching and helping her mother in her kitchen. Chieko is so excited to meet travelers from all over the world and teach them how to prepare a satisfying, home-cooked Japanese meal.
