Meet Sallaya

As a young girl, Sallaya’s parents' only demand was to study hard to guarantee placement in one of Thailand’s top 5 schools. It paid off but after several degrees and a successful (but extremely stressful) job later, Sallaya discovered relaxation through cooking. Finally finding her passion, she took a leap of faith by setting aside her career and turning full-time to the art of Thai cooking. Aoe, her best friend and a great cook in her own right, usually joins her for some fun in the kitchen. Each New Year, this dynamic duo make desserts to give to friends and people they know as gifts for the New Year. If Sallaya is not hosting a Traveling Spoon guest at her table, you can bet she’s traveling the world.

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

Sallaya will take you by private car to the fresh market in Rangsit only 5 minutes away. This indoor market has everything one could possible need for a delicious Thai meal: fresh meats, vegetables, fruits and many more surprises. After experiencing the market, Sallaya will drive you to her comfortable home just 10 minutes away. A refreshing lemongrass juice will be your first ‘taste’ of the delightful Thai cooking experience yet to come.

Help Sallaya prepare some of her specialties like tom kaa kai, a delicious chicken soup simmered in coconut milk with mushrooms, cabbage, galangal and lemongrass, eggs and pork in brown gravy, kai pa lo (quail eggs, tofu, garlic, pepper, coriander root) stir-fried shrimp with basil and chilies or pad kra pow (stir-fried chicken with garlic and basil). For dessert, Sallaya loves to cook sweet bananas in coconut milk – made from fresh coconuts the old-fashioned way!
