Sa is originally from Yala, the southernmost province of Thailand, a distinct and culturally rich region that borders Malaysia. Thai cuisine here is unlike that in the rest the country and is renowned for its spiciness to unsuspecting palates and origins in Malay, halal, and Indian cooking traditions. Sa’s mastery and ease in the kitchen began as a young girl as she helped her grandmother cook and sell Thai desserts at the neighborhood market. While her mother was away studying at university, Sa became the “chief” family cook at the ripe old age of 7!

After finishing her studies in Bangkok, Sa was awarded a scholarship to study in Australia where she earned her PhD. There, she discovered her gift of entertaining as she cooked for her new friends and, later, events at the Thai Embassy. Now back in Thailand, Sa is eager to share her delicious cooking and warm Thai hospitality with travelers.

Journey up the Chao Phraya River to meet your host Sa. Together you will take a quick walk to the local fresh market, Tha Nam Non. Along the way, you’ll see some of the iconic sights of Nonthaburi province like the Tha Nam Non clock tower, the historic town hall, and taxi tricycles.

After the market, take a taxi with Sa to her comfortable home where a drink of bael fruit juice will refresh you before the cooking begins. Sa’s specialties are central and southern Thai dishes, as well as halal food. Some of her favorite dishes to prepare for her guests are Thai massaman – an Indian-style muslim curry with chicken (cinnamon, star anise, cumin, curry paste, shallots, garlics, ginger, coconut milk, potato, onion, and peanuts (optional); stirred fried chicken with cashew nuts (garlic, spring onion, dried chilies, and sweet peppers); and kanom ko, a traditional Thai dessert (flour, palm sugar, coconut, pandan leaf, and butterfly pea).
