Meet Reshma

Reshma lives with her father in a beautifully decorated apartment in Santacruz East, very close to NMACC Mumbai. As a child, Reshma’s love for poha (beaten rice with masala) made her curious about cooking and so she spent all of her time watch her mother cook in the kitchen, fixing dishes for loved ones. Like every Indian family, her parents hoped she would become a doctor, engineer or earn an MBA, but she had only one dream: starting her own restaurant. As destiny would have it, she went on to study at the Dadar Catering College. Her passion for food and cooking has translated into a business venture and now she offers catering services for parties and conducts home cooking classes in Mumbai. When she’s not cooking and feeding people, Reshma enjoys photography and playing squash.

What to expect

Cooking experience (2 - 11 guests) Join Reshma in her apartment for a delicious Mumbai street food (chaat) experience! She will recreate the iconic street food of Mumbai at her home, in a clean, hygienic environment! When visiting Mumbai, a chance to try the street food is something you cannot miss, and a Mumbai street food tour is one of the most recommended things to do in the city. As some of you may be vary of trying these foods on the street, we decided to re-create the street experience in our host’s home. This way you can discover the sweet, spicy and tangy flavors in a very safe, hygienic, fun and relaxed environment.

After Reshma greets you to her beautiful apartment, sit down to share a refreshing cutting chai (a small serving of tea) and bun maska, a favorite combination for Mumbaikars. While you sip on your tea, she will share about street food in India and Mumbai's most famous street foods that you must try. Learn to make and fry samosa (fried pastry with a savory filling) and batata vada (a mashed potato patty coated with chick pea flour, which is then deep-fried) with Reshma in her home kitchen. After frying your samosa and vada, sit down at the dining table to share these dishes you helped prepare, and a few other street food favorites such as pani puri (a round, hollow fried crisp that is filled with a mixture of flavored water, tamarind chutney, potato, onion or chickpeas) and pav bhaji (a mix of vegetables, mashed and eaten with buttered bread). The street food of Mumbai is truly a burst of unique flavors which will tingle all your taste buds. You shall also receive recipes at the end of your experience, so that you can throw your own chaat party back home!

Notes: All the dishes served as part of the Mumbai street food experience are vegetarian. Please note that this private Mumbai street food tour with chef Reshma in her home, is very close to NMACC Mumbai, 10 minutes by car/auto.

{ "trip_advisor" : [{"author_name" : "VirginieCP", "rating" : 4, "body" : "We took Rhesma cooking class in the SantaCruz area. She was very welcoming, and definatly passionate with food and showing us how to do it. The food was very good. I recommand!"}, {"author_name" : "Stefon S", "rating" : 5, "body" : "Reshma was a great hostess and chef! My girlfriend and I were her first American guests and she treated us like family. Her home was also inviting, open, clean and beautiful. We started off the experience with a cup of refreshing rose lemonade. It was November, but still hot in Mumbai (Bombay), India, so the drink definitely helped cool us off. The most memorable dishes we helped prepare and ate there were Bharlea Vanga (Stuffed eggplant) and the Batata Wada! All of the food prepared was really delicious! We still talk about it and my mouth waters as I write this review! Thank you for your hospitality and hope to see you when you visit NYC."}, {"author_name" : "SoupchickRI", "rating" : 5, "body" : "We had a wonderful time with Reshma, who is an enthusiastic cook and good teacher. We began our class with a brief visit to a local market, where we tasted vegetables and learned about varieties that were only available in the winter, and how they're used. Back in her home kitchen, we helped prepare two of the dishes for the thali. Her assistant came at the end to make fresh from-scratch chappatis for us, which capped off a delicious dinner."}] }
