Meet Sofia and Joaquim

Sofia has a long history of cooking and hosting people. Her family managed a restaurant for 15 years, so she is very acquainted with providing great food and service to the international tourist community. During that time and until today, she has dedicated herself to providing local culinary experiences for tourists at her home as well. For Sofia, being a Traveling Spoon host represents the best of both worlds, providing great food, but also interacting with her travelers, having fun teaching them how to cook and then sharing a great meal together. Sofia is eager to share everything she has learned during the last 15 years of her hosting.

In-home meal (1 - 20 guests) Meet Sofia and Joaquim in their cozy home in beautiful Evora and enjoy a quiet culinary experience in Sofia's beautiful garden. The historical center of Evora, is just a couple of blocks from their house.

During your stay, Sofia and her husband Joaquim will make you feel like you are at home, so prepare for a truly local Portuguese evening. Besides being a professional chef and an expert in culinary experiences, Sofia used to be a tour guide, so expect a truly interesting experience, where Portuguese food, culture and history will be mixed together.

Enjoy traditional dishes from around Evora while Sofia and Joaquim tell you stories about their growing up and tales of local life. One of the highlights of the experience will be Sofia's cooking demonstration: preparing smoked sausages on a special “assadeira” clay dish. The result: an incredibly tasty surprise. You will also try different wines from nearby vineyards, giving you a true taste of local life and culinary traditions.

Cooking experience (1 - 20 guests) Sofia and her husband Joaquim will welcome you to their outdoor kitchen which is decorated with traditional Portuguese pottery and cooking utensils. Sofia will provide a step-by-step cooking class, where you will learn to make traditional Portuguese dishes from an expert. During your Portuguese cooking class in Evora, you can expect a fun, dynamic class, with a lot of interesting cultural and historical facts about Portugal's cuisine. The cooking class will take place in Sofia's outdoor kitchen with a view of her beautiful garden.
