Host offerings
Furu has been a professional chef at several Tokyo restaurants for over 30 years. He enjoys meeting people from around the world and is excited to share his cuisine and food culture with travelers. He has designed a cooking class specifically for travelers curious about Japanese cuisine and his mission is to provide an authentic and memorable gastronomy experience in a homely atmosphere. Furu’s cooking skills coupled with his knowledge about Japanese ingredients make for an educational food experience. Children are very welcome too!

In-home meal (1 - 20 guests) Furu will welcome you into his house with a warm smile and serve you a refreshing drink. Then join him at his low Japanese style dining table to enjoy an authentic Japanese meal. Your menu might include traditional dishes such as miso soup, sushi, Japanese style omelet and vegetable tempura. Furu likes to use ingredients that complement each other and create balance. Although a serious cook, he is an easy going person who loves to share the happiness of eating with food lovers.
Cooking experience (1 - 20 guests) Join Furu in his kitchen and learn to cook 3-4 Japanese dishes that you will later share together sitting on the floor in front of a low Japanese style table. Your cooking class lasts about 1.5 hours before you enjoy the classic Japanese dishes you helped prepare. You will learn to make dishes such as miso soup, maki-sushi, vegetable tempura and tamagoyaki, a traditional Japanese omelette made by rolling together several layers of cooked egg.
Market visit (1 - 20 guests) You will get to visit two traditional Japanese markets during this private market tour. Visit the outer Tsukiji market and Toyosu market with your host Furu. This is a vibrant market of great cultural important to locals where chefs and locals shop for everything from produce to knives. You will then visit Toyosu market, the largest fish market in the world where you will get to see regional Japanese seafood on sale and learn how to choose fresh fish. Explore Toyosu’s fish and vegetable markets with Furu and discover how the market operates and Japanese food etiquette.
Notes: Furu hosts groups of 1-4 people in his apartment, in Fujimidai Nerima. For groups of 5-15, Furu will host you in a kitchen studio that he rents, in Nerima. Hence the pricing for larger groups is higher as Furu rents a cooking studio and the experience does not happen in his own home.
