Meet Robert

Robert has been cooking, teaching, and writing professionally about food and culture for over 30+ years. He has worked as a food editor/critic, restaurant designer, hotel operator, and chef. He launched his first restaurant pop-up as a high school junior and began traveling the world in search of flavor by 19. As a food writer, he was nominated as World’s Best Food Journalist and has won numerous global accolades as a correspondent for Travel+Leisure, Gourmet, and Slow Food, among many other of the world's biggest outlets. As an Oxford-trained scholar, he has lectured at food conferences and taught on four continents. As a food consultant, he has worked with generational talents like Michelin 3-star chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Sydney’s top toque Neil Perry, and Top Chef winner Harold Dieterle, and James Beard Award-winner Zak Pelaccio. As a culinary and operations director, he has developed 50+ restaurants and luxury hotels in the US, UK, and Asia, including some of the world’s top brands (W Bangkok and Seoul, Fullerton Bay Singapore, Corinthia UK). He believes that food has a unique ability to connect people, transcend culture, and create lasting memories. He is so excited to share his passion and hopes his Montreal food tour can bring a few dollops (or more) of joy into your life!

What to expect

Please note menu might vary. If there are particular dishes you are interested in trying, please include your request in the booking form.

Food tour (1 - 20 guests) This small-group, non-private, Montreal food culture tour is a deeper gastronomic adventure than others. First, it has been curated by a Michelin star-trained chef and award-winning food and travel journalist. Second, you will eat from a selection of artisan producers, butchers, cheesemongers, and industry sources that can't easily be found on Google. Third, it focuses on the cuisines, home cooking, and street foods of Montreal’s diverse immigrant communities - Italian, North African, French, Asian, Quebecois, and more - visa the setting of North America's largest daily farmer's market. Fourth, the tour frames the cultural and local history that give the dishes you will taste dimension. Finally, your Montreal food tour includes tastes of 6-7 local foods. Wear walking shoes and loose pants and get ready to immerse yourself in the food, culture and culinary traditions of Montreal! If you choose the optional alcohol add-on, your host offers 1-2 glasses of sommelier-chosen wine, craft cider or beer.

Notes: Note 1: Drinks, any needed transport, and alcohol (unless added as a paid option) are not included. <br> Note 2: Robert will be your guide on most days, but on days that he is sick or not available, an equally wonderful guide and partner personally trained by Robert will be your guide.
